After a small break for the G20 Public Holiday last week, we are back with our regular Friday Newsletter today!

It has been super hot and muggy in Brisbane and it is wonderful to see the dedication of our knitting and crocheting friends who are continuing to create through these warmer days … although many have joined us in store to escape the heat and enjoy the cool air-con while they do!

Stitch Markers

A few months ago we added Wild About Yarn stitch markers to our collection, and we are so thrilled that you all loved them as much as we do!

We almost completely sold out, but thankfully we have received a new shipment.

These unique markers would make a great gift for your special knitting / crochet friends, or perhaps a special addition to your own Christmas stocking.

Knit Pro

With all the gifts flying off the needles & hooks, our blocking supplies have taken a hit. New stock of the nifty KnitPro blocking board sets and blocking wires sets has replenished our stock.

Designer Knitting

New in store! The latest Designer Knitting magazine – Early Winter 2014.

Embrace the provisional cast on, one of the most versatile techniques you can learn.

Deborah Newton considers bobbles her “good luck charm”, and she shares with us everything you ever wanted to know about knitting these whimsical embellishments.

On a quest to apply as many knitting techniques as possible to brioche knitting, Nancy Marchant turns her sights to brioche lace.

And, of course, the patterns! A touch of sparkle sheds a soft light on dramatic black and white. Cuddle up in soft, tactile knits–just right for weekend lounging–that knit up quickly in bulky yarns. Pair bold yet neutral burgundy with all your wardrobe staples.

And spin the colour wheel – bright of-the-moment shades kick classic colourwork techniques up a notch.

A Little Note

Send some love this festive season with our handmade cards!

Our A Little Note collection was really popular last year, and the new cards have already started to fly out the door.

Clover

With several sizes of our Clover hooks completely wiped out, we were hanging out for our delivery. Thankfully it has arrived in time for the weekend.

tangledYARNS

Our Soft Touch and Amour hooks are all back in stock, plus some new tools have hit the shelves.

We are now stocking Clover’s fantastic circular stitch holders in two lengths – 23-40cm and 61-91cm. Unlike the traditional “safety pin” style of stitch holder, the flexible cables on these will hold your stitches safely without stretching them out, and are particularly useful for circular knitting projects.

Classes

Christmas is drawing ever nearer and I know I’m getting nervous about finishing all my handmade gifts in time. With this in mind, we have decided to dedicate Wednesdays to Works in Progress.

WIP Wednesdays

It’s always more fun to work in a group, so why not join in our WIP Wednesdays? Come along and work on your own projects or join our class table / session to work on our project of the week.

(The class table / session is $15 for one hour, which includes some supplies and instructor support. Working on your own project in the social session is free of charge.)

Crochet Jar Covers
Crochet over a simple glass jar to create your very own vase, pencil, needle or tealight holder.
(includes a choice of recycled jars & a selection of cotton yarn)

On the Needles at Tangled Yarns

Laura popped in earlier this week to share her finished Fox Paws scarf. Knitted in a fabulous selection of colours of The Fibre Company’s Canopy Fingering, this beautiful scarf is sure to keep her warm when she heads back to Canada soon.

Also heading overseas shortly, Maureen will be warding off Europe’s winter chill in style in her Button Tab Hat and Comfort Cowl. Maureen has used Noro Silk Garden and Berocco Ultra Alpaca in this great coordinating set.

One of our Tech Support students, Stacey, has just finished her first pair of socks! It’s perhaps a little warm for them at the moment, but her Prototypes will keep her feet toasty next winter.

Derrin has had her hooks out again, finishing a gorgeously autumnal Queen Anne’s Shawl. This shawl takes on a completely different personality when crocheted in Noro Taiyo Sock.

I had a little surprise waiting for me when I came in this morning. Robin had left us her beautiful Dulcet. Whisper soft in our Cascade Forest Hills, it’s a perfect cover-up for cool summer evenings … not that we’ve had many of those lately!

I think we may be staging a little intervention for Anita soon – this is her second Dory in as many weeks! This time she has used a single colour of Cascade Ultra Pima for a very different look and feel.

Last summer I was inspired by a customer’s
Ribbed Lace Bolero and immediately whipped one up in our Ultra Pima (in Natural). Since it is currently adorning one of our shop models, however, I have added a second, this time in a great wardrobe staple, black.

BrisStyle

Buying thoughtful and one-of-a-kind gifts will be easier than ever this holiday season, when BrisStyle partners with Etsy to open a Christmas pop-up shop in central Brisbane from Thursday 27th November until Sunday 30th November.

For four festive days, BrisStyle will bring Etsy’s virtual marketplace to life, giving Brisbane’s Etsy lovers a chance to ‘shop local’ with their favourite Etsy sellers.

Like etsy.com, there will be jewellery, art, fashion, children’s wear and homewares all made here in Queensland by local artisans, as well as quality vintage items.
