With the weather really starting to warm up and even our first summer storm this week, my projects have naturally segued into cotton and there is more on my crochet hook than my needles.

There is something about the warmer weather that makes me want to pick up our silky soft Cascade Ultra Pima. This is a sweet little cotton top requested by the elder of my little ones; the pressure is on to finish it quickly so she can wear it over the holidays.

Our old favourite knit.wear has returned with a new look and a new name – knit.purl!

The concept behind this special issue remains the same, however, focussing on simple, stylish, contemporary knit designs with fresh studio photography and interesting articles.

This issue explores striking knit-purl combinations, big gauges, bold colourwork, tailored sweaters, cool accessories and more. Michelle Hunter introduces us to “Navajo ply knitting,” an innovative technique that allows for quick changes between single and triple-strand knitting, and then we step into the world of New York Fashion Week with the work of a budding knitwear designer. Handknit designer John Brinegar brings us two exclusive designs and talks to us about his work, life, and favourite yarns.

With many of our lovely yarns coming in skeins, we find having a ball winder and swift indispensable. It seems you all agree, as they seem to disappear almost as soon as a new shipment arrives!

We have new stock this week of the beautiful timber umbrella swifts, metal umbrella swifts and Royal ball winders.

Make It! Knits

Interweave has just released Make it! Knits, which gathers together some of the best quick & easy knits from Interweave Knits and Knitscene magazines.

Intentionally chosen for their heavier weight yarns – from worsted to bulky – these projects are for the beginner knitter or those who simply prefer quick and thick knits. The patterns comprise beginner and intermediate garments and accessories, and all of them include enough yarn information to make it easy to substitute from your stash.

Four articles focus on knitting pattern basics, knitting in the round, reading charts, and determining how much yarn you need for a project – valuable information for knitters of all skill levels.

Our last delivery of the new larger size Amour Crochet Hooks sold out in record time! In funky fluoro colours, it’s not hard to see why these extra large sizes {6.5mm – 10mm} appealed.

Luckily we’ve received new stock this week, as well as a much needed top-up of all of our Clover hooks.
