The shop has been buzzing this week with customers old and new stocking up for the winter months. It’s been lovely to have visitors from all around Australia and even from as far afield as Canada pop in to say hello.

We’ve turned out a new crop of knitters and crocheters from our Learn To classes, and are set to welcome a fresh contingent next week. And lots of you have been learning new skills through our workshops – last week, students variously learnt Continental knitting, circular knitting, and the entrelac technique.

Mystery Knit-A-Long

Although Clue 2 landed in our inboxes last weekend, I’ve been so busy I haven’t yet managed to get to it!

Luckily there is no clue this weekend, so it’s a perfect time to catch up or – for those of you who have finished this clue – to rest up for the arrival of Clue C next Saturday May 31st.

KnitPro

Our needle shelves were looking rather empty until our massive shipment of Knit Pro needles arrived just in time for the weekend.

With the knitting season in full swing and so many new students graduating from our Learn To Knit Classes, we have concentrated on our Symfonie & Karbonz Straight, Double Point & Interchangeable needles.

We’re also getting our gardens BBQ-ready with bold macrame lawn chairs, crocheting cute plant pots for our mantelpieces, sewing a panda buddy blanket for new arrivals, and up-cycling vintage tea towels into clutches.

Anyone for tennis? Prepare for Wimbledon and hook a colourful pair of shorts and a length of juicy berry bunting. The fun continues with Kate Bruning’s ingenious soft cricket set.

There’s no need to choose between colour and texture when you can have both. Get to grips with bobbles to make a cosy striped blanket and cushion set, and a rather dotty jumper for a little one.

A fresh look at pattern and texture

tangledYARNS

Like a breath of fresh air, The Blue and White Issue brings all the beauty of spring.

We celebrate the comfortable, confident fashions of Magnolia Pearl and admire the feat of engineering that lies beneath the frills and froth of wedding corsets.

We look at the many incarnations of lace from the Haute Couture designs of Iris Van Herpen to the rise of lace as a commodity in the 17th century.

The historic region of Flanders was built on the wealth of wool and linen, we show textile lovers the many ways to spend their time there…

On the Needles at Tangled Yarns

Last year, Anita cast on Caramel in yummy soft alpaca but didn’t manage to finish it before the warmer weather came along. The colder weather inspired her to pick it up and finish it and I’m sure it will get lots of wear this year!

Our prolific friend, Maureen, finished another Summer Carnival, this time in our Cascade 220 Superwash Sport.

The Fibre Company‘s Canoping Fingering has been popular, turning up in three of this week’s finished projects.

Maureen used five shades to create a beautiful vignette of blues in Drawing Nigh by Susan B. Anderson in Fibre Company Canoping Fingering.

She also finished this sweet Goffered Crescent Scarf – it’s so light and soft and, no doubt toasty warm (although we resisted test-wearing it…)

One of our new colours – Tanager – caught Rachel’s eye, and she transformed it into this delectable Frick Frick Beret.

Derrin also finished a sweater this week – the lovely and decidedly feminine
James in Jo Sharp’s now discontinued Alpaca Silk Georgette.

Andrea quickly fell in love with three of the luscious colours in our Road To China Light and our new pattern Coco Cowl was the perfect project for them.
