11.04.14

We are nearing the end of the first week of school holidays in Queensland, with our young friends in the southern states about to start their Easter break.

Add to that some cooler weather and we’ve had lots of keen young knitters popping into the store looking for something to keep their fingers busy.

Earlier in the week I had a request for a knitting kit for a younger, beginner knitter. My immediate suggestion was one of our Petite Garter Cowl Kits.
tangledYARNS

I designed the Petite Garter Cowl last winter with the younger knitter in mind. It is a great way to teach them some basic techniques and they end up with a bright new accessory … as well as a sense of achievement and pride.

Our kits don’t usually make it to the website as I pick different colours and coordinating buttons each time.

As we have had requests for them since I shared some of the yummy yarn colours and buttons on our Facebook page earlier in the week, we thought we would pop a few kits up on the website for those of you not able to make it into the store.

The Simple Things
tangledYARNS

The April issue of The Simple Things is full of good advice, old & new…why there should always be cake in the house and a beautiful Easter Brunch menu including baked eggs, hash browns and brioche hot cross buns.

tangledYARNS

Make every day a bank holiday with The Simple Things. It starts with tea and birdsong in bed and ends with all your favourite humans gassing around the dinner table in their slippers. In-between there’s time for local asparagus and wild flowers, vintage treasures to hunt down and hoard, and bicycles and compasses to set us free. And don’t forget the memories to be made over freshly baked cakes and lashings of whipped cream. Your life, your hours. Bunk off with The Simple Things.

Classes

Today we are launching our new class calendar, for
May & June.

We are also thrilled to be welcoming a new member to our Tangled Yarns teaching team, Leeanne. Leeanne has been knitting and crocheting for almost 30 years, since being taught by her mother as a child. After having her own first child, she began knitting and crocheting in earnest, with barely a day going by without needles or hook in hand.

With Leeanne joining our existing teachers, Anita and Derrin, we are able to offer even more classes and workshops each week!

Because there are so many classes on our calendar, including several new workshops, we don’t want to overload you all with too much information at once. So we will be featuring different workshops and classes in each of our upcoming newsletters.

One of our most popular classes is our Technical Support.

These classes are two-hour sessions where you can work your way through any technical issues you may be having with your current project.

In addition to our regular Technical Support Sessions with Anita on Tuesdays (12noon – 2pm), Thursday (10am – 12noon) and Saturdays (10am – 12noon), we have also added some Thursday (6pm – 8pm) Technical Support Sessions with Derrin.

On the Needles at Tangled Yarns

Our speedy knitter, Maureen has finished three projects this week. First up is this test knit for Melissa Schaschwary’s Ballou knitted in ourSweet Georgia Tough Love Sock

Three shades of our Canopy Fingering created a striking Brush Creek Cowlette

And finally, Maureen whipped up Georgie Hallam’s Uwland cowl in some soft blue woolganics 8ply, which clearly defines the lovely geometric lines of the lace pattern.

Anita is trying hard to keep her promise to herself to finish a WIP before casting on something new, but the Uwland Cowl also caught her eye last week.

She chose to knit it in The Fibre Company’s Acadia, and the finished product really highlights how different the same pattern can look when knitted up in different yarns.
