Over the past week we have been indulging in a little of the festive spirit on our Facebook page, sharing a holiday decoration or gift idea each day.
For those of you not on Facebook, here’s a little recap of our Advent inspirations…
1st of December – I thought we would start with the special men in our lives as they are often forgotten about with our knitting & crochet.
I have been promising my dad some golf club covers for some time now, hopefully a couple of these striped ones will be under the tree for him this year…
Striped Golf Club Cover by Lauren Nell
2nd of December and we have a super cute & quick-to-whip-up toy for the little ones.
Gingerbread Boy by Sara Elizabeth Kellner
Our Biggan DK Merino in Russet & Light Russet or Cascade 220 Worsted in Sunflower & Kansas are perfect gingerbread colours plus Biggan DK Merino festive Emerald Green and Scarlet for your decorating fun.
How sweet would they look poking out the top of a stocking?
On the 3rd of December we introduced Yarn Packs!
Yarn Packs are the materials you need to create something special…we have selected the yarn colours and notions for you so all you need to do is make, make, make.
Our first Yarn Pack is for the super cute and simple Crochet Scalloped Necklace by Sarah deGandis. Each Yarn Pack contains enough of our Pierrot Amian and one of our very special buttons as a feature. (I found using a button makes the necklace easier to get on and off)
These adorable crochet necklaces would make lovely gifts, plus they’re nice & quick to whip up!
Our Crocheted Necklace Yarn Packs are available on our website now…enjoy!
4th of December – some good clean fun…a little stack of handmade washcloths with some handcrafted soap.
A favourite knitted cloth – Double Bump Dishcloth by Missy Angus
The hardest part….choosing just a few colours from our Pierrot Cotton Neat colour collection!
5th of December and something for your BFFs (Best Friend Forever).
Something for the stars in your life….
Who wouldn’t want a miniature elfin hat to celebrate the coming festivities?!
Remember, even if you aren’t on Facebook yourself, you can still visit our page to see what we’re up to!
We have loads of other ideas and goodies to share with you over the coming days.
In good time to provide a little relief from festive preparations, we’ve received the latest issues of many of our favourite magazines. Packed with handcrafted ideas for Christmas, these titles would make great gifts for a loved one who hasn’t yet discovered them – or why not bundle the latest issue together with a couple of back issues for a dose of inspirational holiday reading?
An abundance of cheerful characters are waiting in the wings, including a crochet polar bear and nutcracker doll. Or if you’re looking for something suitably glamorous for grown up girls, our ice blue clutch and rose emblazoned hat will see you through to New Year festivities.
Mollie Makes 34 is packed full of hearty projects and crafty goodness.
It’s no secret to our regulars that many of us here at Tangled Yarns are a wee bit addicted to painting our nails all the colours of the rainbow. In fact, it might be almost as much an obsession as collecting yarn…
The folks at Soak seem to share this preoccupation, if their luscious Soak Boxes are any indication! We are thrilled to be adding another three Soak Boxes to our range: Cinnamon Kane, Pearly Temple and Grape Gatsby.
Taking care of our tootsies this time, each Soak Box contains a bottle of Soak and a tub of Heel in matching scents, an exclusive pattern, a skein of Lorna’s Laces yarn and a coordinating premium nail polish. Bliss!
All of our other Soak items have received a top up as well.
We are excited to announce that our friends at Namaste are back with a brand new storage system for all your knitting needles, crochet hooks and tools!
Introducing the latest and greats organisation for the needle arts…

Issue 4 of our favourite creative guide to up-cycling, Reloved is back with a bumper issue.
Christmas is nearly here! It is my favourite time of year, particularly as it gives me the perfect excuse to spend a lot of my time crafting (not that you ever really need and excuse).
As well as making my Christmas cards, I always like to create little extras to go with my presents and this year I will of course be up-cycling everything using quite a few ideas from this issue.
Only a small delivery of our delightful yarn bowls this time but we have our fingers crossed that we will receive another delivery before Christmas…
Issue 12 of Simply Crochet hits the shelves today, full of festive fun!
It’s that magical time of year – Christmas is here! We’re helping you prepare with a whopping 50 fab crochet patterns. There are gift ideas, Scandinavian-inspired accessories and fun, festive projects for your home.
One thing we love about Christmas is getting all dressed up and sparkly. We’ve got party time sorted with an easy-peasy, queen-for-a-day sequin tiara, luxurious fur stole (so on-trend). Need a quick fix for your party wardrobe? Upgrade an outfit with our glitzy, loopy belt made with hairpin crochet.
This issue is stuffed with creative ideas to get decked out for the season. Hook up a bundle of holly leaves and berries to adorn your wine glasses, napkins, table and pud. There are stylish, Scandi-inspired mitts and a pixie hat to make, with crocheted bobbles and Fair Isle details.
Plus, make a wintry snowflake wreath, a bright and beautiful hexagon stocking and add pretty crochet finishing touches to your gift-wrapping. Jane Crowfoot’s got all kinds of ideas for thrifty Christmas makes. Not found the ultimate Christmas jumper yet? Upcycle a chic alternative with one motif and an old sweater.
Don’t panic about gifts, we’ve got that covered, too – there’s a fantastic selection of projects that will go down a treat. Before you start, check out our handy guide to hooking in time for Christmas. Now get stuck in – there’s a pair of pretty pom-pom slippers, a stunning silk and merino jumper, Nicki Trench’s zigzag e-reader case and Erika Knight’s textured wool throw to make. Chaps can have no objections to Joanne Scrace’s hat, scarf and mitts set worked in oh-so-manly granite stitch. There’s nothing cool about being cold. For little ones, there are sweet Kokeshi dolls and a cheeky ninja to hook, an adorable flowery collar and a tubby amigurumi Santa. And for you? A super-special 2014 diary for all your doodles and dates (including unmissable craft events throughout the year!).
Derrin has been crocheting up a storm, making more beautiful earrings, this time in one of my favourite colours – sunny yellow!!
The last batch of these was snapped up in a flash.
New in store this week, Issue 55 of the divine Selvedge.
This Christmas Selvedge follows in the footsteps of the Magi and finds glorious textiles in Iran and Uzbekistan.

Kim couldn’t resist working up another crochet floor rug from our Hoooked Zpagetti – this time for herself!
This is Doilifus Maximus aka Doily Rug by Johanna Vahatalo.
Kim used just under two cones of Zpaghetti to complete the rug.
The pattern is Granny Circle Placemats by Purl Soho.
Anita has been a busy bee over the past weeks, working on a test knit as well as gifts for her children’s teachers.
After crocheting one of our Amian necklace Yarn Packs for herself in just half an hour, she finished an additional two for her daughter’s teachers.
Crochet Scalloped Necklace by Sarah deGandis
For her son’s teacher, a Star Wars aficionado, Anita worked up a Yoda-inspired beanie in the perfect shade of Cascade 220 Superwash.
Yoda Hat – All Sizes by Sarah Horrocks
To top it off – pardon the pun – she also finished this beautiful hat by Melissa Schaschwary in The Fibre Company’s Organik. (As this was a test knit, there is no link yet, but it will be released very soon)
This Saturday is set to be the most simply gorgeous handmade City Hall Market of the year!
With the Lord Mayor’s giant Christmas Tree at the front door, over 50 handmade stalls inside air conditioned City Hall and extended trading hours till 4pm, this is a Christmas Shopping experience not to be missed.

|New Farm Confectionery
Here at Tangled Yarns, we are especially privileged to be able to offer a range of sweet and savoury treats from our talented friend, Jodie.
A chef based here in New Farm, Jodie has parlayed her love of everything sweet into…
New Farm Confectionery makes a range of delicious confectionery using traditional methods and only the very best ingredients. The confectionery is made in small batches by hand, and features all natural colourings and flavourings (except for toffee apples).
Jodie’s scrumptious confections make the perfect gift for those loved ones who are hard to buy for – who doesn’t have a sweet tooth, after all? Or maybe just an extra sweetener with another gift…
Jodie will be launching New Farm Confectionery this Sunday at the Eagle Farm markets. Look out for her inside the St Ledger building.
It’s hard to believe that the end of the year has rolled around so quickly!
We’ll be taking a few days off over the Christmas and New Year period, but the doors will be wide open again on 2 January.
