Wow…what a busy week!

We have been working our way through barcoding and putting out all of the stock that arrived last week.

Our classes continue to keep us busy almost everyday of the week and with the reasonably poor weather we have had the lounge has been packed with social knitters and crocheters almost every day.

Spin Off

The latest issue of Spin Off has hit the shop this week – Spring 2013.

From Spin Off…

We’ve asked spinners who make a living at their craft to share their stories and provide tips for those of you who are interested in teaching, selling your handspun yarn, or starting a spinning business. We know that not every spinner wants to make a living spinning, but even so, we all have an interest in the people who cultivate the fibre, shepherd the animals, carve the tools, dye the top, to make your spinning dreams that much more attainable.

Also, get a glimpse into the life of an eighteenth century spinner using a Great Wheel for production spinning, salivate over the hand-painted top of mail-order dyers, and ruminate with a shepherdess as she contemplates what she’s learned from her sheep. Cast-on a lovely pair of fingerless mitts, a scarf that maintains the character of hand-dyed roving, and an endlessly customisable pattern for hats.

The Fibre Comany

I am thrilled to introduce another new brand to Tangled Yarns – The Fibre Company!!

With much excitement we received our first box of deliciousness this week….Road To China Light.

Road to China Light is a 3-ply strong, soft, shiny and drapey yarn with a lot of body perfect for luxurious, soft and warm items.

The unique blend of fibres are spun into a smooth yarn and then kettle dyed, and the different way the fibres absorb the dye creates a beautiful depth of colour with subtle heathered tones.

Road to China Light

65% baby alpaca, 15% silk,
10% camel & 10% cashmere
Sport Weight / 5ply
159 yards / 145 meters per 50 gram skein
24-26 stitches per 4 inches on 3.25mm — 3.5mm needles

If you can’t wait to get your hands on some Road to China Light, here is a little inspiration…

Whats on the Needles at Tangled Yarns

Anita saw two colours of our Ella Rae Lace Merino and Malabrigo Sock hanging next to each other and was struck by how perfectly they complemented each other.

Of course they had to become a Stripe Study Shawl by Veera Valimaki {knit}, Anita’s second – she enjoyed the first one so much.

A new little member is almost due to join Kim’s family and of course there is an adorable little blanket ready and waiting.

Always a massive Jared Flood fan, his Tweed Baby Blanket {knit} was hard to go past.

Kim has used three colours from our Jo Sharp Silkroad DK collection – Festival, Coca & Fleece.

I have had a week of finishing this week with several projects off my needles.
{after many weeks of cast ons}

First up is one of our new class projects – Turbulence Cowl by Laura Chau. {knit}

I have used two colours of our Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran that I have been smitten with since our first Autumn shipment arrived a few weeks ago – Dove & Enamel.

After my littlest one seeing the buttery yellow Entrechat by Lisa Chemery {knit} that I made last week she requested one of her own.
I have used our Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in colour #49 – Coral.
She certainly loves it….she found it blocking at home and decided to wear it to bed, all the yarn tails yet to be weaved in…thankfully it was at least dry!!

Late last year I wash taking some photos for a wonderful online customer so she could choose some colours for a Colour Affection shawl by Veera Valimaki {knit} and I fell in love with one of the combinations….

This is my second Colour Affection, one is simply not enough!

I have used our Ella Rae Lace Merino in #126, Cascade Heritage Silk in #5168 & Tosh Sock in Mica.

{keep an eye out for new shipments of these yarns in the coming weeks….}
