The year is certainly getting away on us! I can’t believe that it will be October in a matter of days.

This week is the first week of the Queensland school holidays so I have been enjoying the slightly more relaxed mornings and that little extra time with my little girls.

My cast-on-itis*has been going into over drive with all of the new yarns and pretty colours in the shop.
(*cast-on-itis – the strange desire to cast on a million new projects! Symptoms usually appear when surrounded by pretty new yarns…)

As things heat up we have seen a change in the project trends with our Cascade Ultra Pima, Ultra Pima Fine and Heritage Silk being the favourites again this week!

Although it seems the weather can’t make its mind up and we have had the odd cool day again. Perfect for all of my little cardi’s.

Plenty of customers have been popping in to pick up supplies for the gift knitting….way more organised than me! I really must make a start.

Some more great patterns that have popped up on my radar this week –

Christmas Trees by June Gilbank (crochet)

Owl Puffs by Jenna Krupar (knit)

Mini Christmas Stocking Ornaments (knit)

Granny Bunting by Alice Best (crochet)

Korknisse by Manne (knit)

Six Pointed Star Christmas Ornament by Barbara Breiter (knit)

Chain Loop Snowflake by Better Homes & Gardens (crochet)

Hoot Water Bottle Cozy by Robyn Wade (knit)

Ball Winders & Swifts

A new shipment of Royal Ball Winders & Metal Umbrella Swifts has just arrived!

These both sell fast as many of our beautiful yarns come skeined.

Classes

We have been working hard on our new class calendar for November and December – hopefully there is something to cover most of the class requests we have received.

In addition to some new classes we have plenty of our most popular Learn To and Technical Support classes on the calendar.

Once again, Lucy from Attic24 has generously allowed us to use her great designs in our classes.

Make a little handmade happiness for the festive season with our ‘Deck the Halls’ classes.

Many of our students have gone on to knit the full sized version of Summer Flies as their first lace project.

The second lesson will focus on any problems you’ve had over the week with your homework and possibly begin your first shawl.

Whats On the Needles at Tangled Yarns

Another Cascade Ultra Pima knit for Anita this week!

She came in to teach her Technical Support on Wednesday wearing the most stunning Capelet Tank by Cathy Carron in our Cascade Ultra Pima (#3718-Natural).

There are so many different ways to wear the tank, all of them super cute.

Kim has been busy making some gifts for the little girls in her life. This is a collection of adorable Tiara’s!

Kim used our Debbie Bliss Eco Cotton in a selection girly pinks.

Sweet Little Tiara by Sarah Cooper

Toddler Princess Crown by Leanne Growden

A quick crochet to add a splash of colour to my wardrobe this week. This is Skinny Grey Scarf by Cynalune in some of our Berroco Linen Jeans from last season. I think a colour version in some of our Ultra Pima is likely to be on my needles very soon….

Unable to resit the spectacular colours in our Cascade Ultra Pima Fine collection I have cast on a stripy little top for each of my girls.

The pattern is Kokomo by Melissa Simpson.

Those of you who follow us on Facebook will remember my swatch from a couple of days ago.

tangledYARNS

Even though the pattern calls for a DK / 8ply yarn the gauge 24 stitches per 4 inches. After swatching twice I comfortably got that with the Ultra Pima Fine on a 3.75mm needle.

Goes to show that it is always important to swatch before starting a project.

This one is for Miss 7 – #3702 Pink Sapphire & #3775 Cool Mint.

Also in our Cascade Ultra Pima Fine is another little spring cardigan for over my dresses.

I am working on Raiun by Kirsten Johnstone in Ultra Pima Fine – #3709 Wool Violet.

The construction is a little different which is keeping things interesting instead of the standard top down raglan. The collar is started by provisionally casting on two separate sides which will be grafted down the track.
