Friday Favourites

Who would believe that it is December already!!

My two little pixies are super excited about the festive season, our Christmas tree is up, decorations on and much delight is taken in turning on the lights each evening.

Some how they have even ended up with a string of lights over their beds…certainly makes for a special bedtime.

To add the finishing touch I am going to add a stocking to the end of each of their beds, I just have to decide on the pattern!

I am torn between Mary Lou’s Holiday Stocking by Purl Soho (although I would have to knit them in the round – socks with seams?!) or Granny Christmas Stocking by Michelle Kludas…

I even have my colours picked out, in Biggan Design DK Merino.

(Bright Orange-290, Hot Pink-955 & Lime-405)

How could I go wrong with the 64 colours to choose from. I was after something fun and festive without being traditional.

Biggan Design Yarns (DK & 4ply) are such versatile yarns, this is a snapshot of some of my favourite projects using Biggan Design yarn.

Knit A Long

With only a few days to go until school is finished we thought we would give a few suggestions for those quick gifts for teachers to show our appreciation for the wonderful job that they do and to end the year on a special touch.

If your schedule is anything like mine at the moment we have some other sweet non-knitting ideas for teachers gifts that require a little less time.

I have just added them to a Quick Gifts board on Pinterest.

Our first shipment of madelinetosh yarns for the season has just arrived with a bang, with the highly anticipated Pashmina turning up today!

This yarn is such a luxury; a blend of 75% superwash merino, 15% silk and 10% cashmere, which is a similar blend of fibre used in the beautiful woven pashmina scarves. It is divine for shawls, cardigans, pullovers, scarves… whatever takes your fancy and screams out for some luxury.

Interweave Knits Winter 2011

Just arrived – Interweave Knits Winter 2011!!

The garments in the winter 2011 issue of Interweave Knits all have stories of their own – from pieces inspired by vintage tailoring and fit (“Knit Bespoke”), to lush modern cables (A Yarn and Needle Story), to fun bagatelles that borrow from many traditions (A Little Something), to cozy, cocoon-like knits for winter (Warm Your World), to dramatic lace (Float Along).

Grab your yarn and needles and settle in!

Social Groups

Life at this time of year can be super busy so it can be nice to step away from the hustle & bustle and go somewhere where the washing and cleaning can’t follow you!

This has definitely been a common theme for a lot of our social knitters the past few weeks and we love being able to provide a space where you can relax and recharge.

Many of our social knitters use their time away from family to have some devoted gift knitting time, especially for secret gift knititng!.

In fact, this is how our Wednesday social group was born! A dedicated time each week to work on those projects destined to be gifts.

Our social group times are:

Wednesday from 10-1pm

Thursday from 5-7:30pm

Saturday from 9-3pm

We have yummy treats along with tea and coffee for purchase, so come in and recharge with friends.

On the Needles at Tangled Yarns

Anita has been busy again this week with more projects flying off the needles.

Another Cambrian Cowl is finished for a lucky teacher at her sons school. Super luscious in our Cascade Eco Alpaca.

Another Cascade Ultra Pima project for Anita, Tidal by Cecily Glowik MacDonald in colour #3756. (Cornflower Blue)

For a lightweight change our Pierrot Yarns Soft Silk Ramie is becoming a Whisper Cardigan by Hannah Fettig.

Kim has amazingly finished yet another blanket!

This is fast becoming a favourite pattern of hers – Sunny Spread by Ellen Gormley. This time in our Noro Taiyo.

The majority of Kim’s blankets are gifted to her family but I have a feeling this one is staying close to home…

Lauren is working away on a hat for her cousin who is heading off over to Canada in January. This wonderful Malabrigo Worsted will be come a Orchids & Fairy Lights by Tiny Owl Knits

Even my mum has had the needles clicking and has finished these adorable little booties this week. The pattern is a staple favourite of ours, Saartje’s Bootees by Saartje de Bruijn and the yarn is our Pierrot Yarns Casual Cotton Graduation.

Along with all of the festive season fun that we have been having my eldest little one had a birthday party for one of her friends this week. I decided to stick to handmade gifts and made this Granny Stripe Boutique Bag by Sara Friesberg in our Noro Taiyo.

I also made a couple of tiny skirts for some Christmas angels in our Brown Sheep Cotton Fine

Christmas Decorations

We put up our Christmas tree at home over the weekend and I’ve been itching to do up some more little handmade decorations for the tree… maybe a tree to go on the tree!?
