Friday Favourites

With the gift giving season not too far away, I have busy making lists, planning gifts and plotting projects.

There seemed to be a theme appearing with the patterns I was saving…..bags, bags & bags! And not just any bags but felted bags.

I have had some great fun over the past years with our Cascade 220 Worsted and felting.

Some of my favourite projects have been –

Mistletoe Ornament

Felted Bowls

Infinite Ways Ballet Slippers

And of course our
Christmas Wreath from last year

Strangely, there is something very rewarding about intentionally tossing your knitting or crochet in the washing machine to be felted!!

But back to the bags! These bags have all made it onto my shortlist for gift ideas –

French Market Bag by Polly Outhwaite

Alluvia by Allison Haas

Sara Purse by Charlene Brown

Pleats Purse by Josephine Woo

Cream Puff Felted Clutch by Tori Gurbisz

Boodle Tote Purse by Charlene Brown

Felted Notion Purse by Ari Ridpath

Felted Coin Purse by Stitched Together Designs

Grab some of our Cascade 220 Worsted while it is our Friday Favourite and create something special this weekend.

Stitches on needles and yarn on hooks

Bright cotton colours and new pattern books

Tangled Yarns bundles tied up with strings

These are a few of my favourite things!

We have received the highly anticipated copy of knit.wear – Interweave’s newest knitting magazine, exploring sleek, visually simple patterns, but with an interesting twist.

A copy of this magazine is definitely going on my shelf!

From the editor:

knit.wear – simple handknits for the thoughtful knitter. We’re focusing on conceptual, wearable knits with a clean, modern aesthetic–built in unusual ways and with interesting techniques. Interesting to knit, easy to wear.

A few patterns jumped out at me, some will be perfect for our upcoming warmer weather.

October Knit-A-Long

10 more weeks until the gift giving season is upon us!

We’ve had some excited customers pop into the store over the past few weeks, eager to get a head start on some beautiful gifts for the special women in their lives.

Cladonia by Kirsten Kapur in Pierrot Soft Silk Ramie

Splatterdash Wristwarmers by Dagmar Mora in Ella Rae Lace Merino

Filigree Bowl by Linda Permann in Pierrot Beauty Cotton Silk

I made Lauren & Tam a Filigree Bowl when they first announced that they were engaged.

It was so much fun to make and the finished bowl is super pretty.

Do you have friends that admire your knitwear and are eager to learn?

We have a new Learn to Knit series beginning Thursday 27th October from 6-8pm and continuing 3rd November & 10th November.

It’s so exciting to see someone discover the joy of knitting (or re-discover it after many years) and we still have a few spaces left in the class.

Bookings are essential for all classes and can be made by calling the store on (07) 3666 0276 or emailing tangled@tangledyarns.com.au.

On the Needles at Tangled Yarns

Some gorgeous finished staff projects this week!

First off we have Lauren and her Soay Cardigan by Gudrun Johnston.

This was done in the Ruby Cascade 220 Superwash Sport, which she found was fabulous to knit with.

Lauren did apply some modifications to the pattern – shortened the body by a few inches to achieve the cropped look and raised the neckline. You can read further about her modifications on her project page.

The sweet pearl buttons need a little bit of help from some press studs to make sure the cardi stays closed.

Derrin couldn’t resist the lure of our new Pierrot Yarns Soft Silk Ramie and cast on Sparrow by Pam Allen. This will be a cool and breezy top for hot summer days.

Inspired by her Learn to Knit Socks classes, Derrin has been working on a pair of Bavarian Cable Socks by Wendy D. Johnson in some of my hand dyed Tight Twist Sock Yarn.

Kim has finished a stunning Vintage Missoni Inspired Blanket using our beautiful Cotton Fleece.

This was inspired by another Missoni hand towel she has and it looks stunning!

We have had an over whelming response to our original Missoni Inspired Chevron Blanket with projects popping up everywhere!

It seems that many knitters can’t get enough of our Missoni and have requested more!

Our Vintage Missoni Inspired Blanket this is a much more substantial blanket – perfect as an extra layer on the bed or to curl up under on the couch.

We will are busy working on the pattern plus a few other little surprises – keep an eye out on the newsletter for the release!

I have been distracted by so many of the pretty new yarns that have arrived in the past few weeks.

Last weekend I cast on Eden’s Adam by Georgie Hallam with our Pierrot Yarns Casual Cotton Graduation.

Also on the needles is a Baby Acacia by Georgie Hallam with our Pierrot Yarns Marble Organic.

Both of the yarns are wonderful to knit with and are knitting up beautifully.

Eden is already in-store and I hope to have Acacia off the needles and ready to give you an idea of how the yarn knits up.

My main other project action this week has been plodding away on my girls Summer Granny Blankets – I am half way with 12 of the total 24 squares finished.

Technically I could put together and finish one blanket but then there would be arguments on who get the first blanket…..ahhhh, small children!

So much easier to finish both at the same time!!

Made by Megan

This week, Megan has made for us decedent Chocolate Caramel Slice

And sweet little Apple & Cinnamon muffins

Inspiring your passion!
