Friday Favourites

As things warm up our shop evolves…new summer weight yarns are arriving weekly.

This means that we will wind up deliveries of our heavier weight yarns to make room for all the new goodies.

This week we say good bye to our WOOLGanics Head Hands & Heart for the season.

I have loved working with the intense colours and soft squishiness of Head Hands & Heart and look forward to using it next Autumn.

This weekend is your chance to grab some Head Hands & Heart for a last minute project or to stash for when the seasons change again.

Stitches on needles and yarn on hooks
Bright cotton colours and new pattern books
Tangled Yarns bundles tied up with string
These are a few of my favourite things!

Ball Winders & Swifts

For me ball winders and swifts are worth their weight in gold. My knitting time is extremely valuable and generally squeezed in at night after my work day is finished and domestic duties are done. The last thing I want to do is spend a good part of my evening hand winding my skeins ready for knitting!

We have new stock of our Royal Ball Winders and both our Metal Umbrella Swifts and Timber Kiwi Skeiners.

The Metal Umbrella Swifts are get if you are tight on space and need to be able to pack it away in between winding sessions. The Timber Kiwi Skeiner is multi purpose as you can skein yarn back onto it if needed as well!

With all of our new budding crocheters we have had to replenish our Clover Soft Touch Crochet Hooks this week.

There is also new stock of all of our Clover accessories including the niffy Lockable Stitch Markers.

As the Winter season comes to an end it is a good idea to wash and pack away your Winter Woolies so they are fresh and ready to wear when needed.

We have just topped up our supply of SOAK in all fragrances plus the Starter Pack for those of you that like a change or simply can’t decide!

New stock our our large Addi needle range has arrived this week. We have topped up all of our fixed sizes from our 30cm length circulars right through to the 100cm length.

Click Sets are back in stock plus plenty of stock of the cable sets and needle tips in both standard Click and Lace Click.

After a few delays we are excited to announce that we have a new delivery of Noro!!

Lots of expecting mums and excited grandparents have been busy knitting tiny little things with our Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino.

This week we have replenished our wide range of colours ready for all of that Spring baby knitting.

July & August KAL

July and August saw many of us working on our bottom up projects for our final Winter Knit A Long.

Lots of new techniques were learnt and many stunning projects finished.

Our random number generator selected our winner as always….congratulations Chrissy!

Chrissy was lovely enough to allow me to share her finished project photos.

The pattern is Cherry by Anna Bell and the yarn is our Cotton Fleece in Emperors Robe.

I look forward to seeing it in person soon.

September KAL

We had several requests last month to feature Short Rows for our Knit A Long this month.

Since I was working on my Spectra by Stephen West it seemed the idea fit!

Short rows are an invaluable skill, they can be used for sock toes or turning heels, adding bust shaping to garments or for well fitting sleeves.

Not only are they a handy technique they can be super fun as well!

On the Needles at Tangled Yarns

It seems that there is almost a theme with our staff projects this week….the stripe bug has hit!

Derrin has been working on her Featherweight by Hannah Fettig in our Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine. This is knitting up like a dream and will be a great transitional layer to throw on in air conditioning or cooler afternoons.

There is a little nephew on the horizon for Derrin! Of course her needles jumped to action and she is knitting up this adorable little Garter Yoke Baby Cardi by Jennifer Hoel in a mixture of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino and Cascade 220 Superwash Sport.

Lauren was inspired by the thought of a Short Row Knit A Long and cast on Stripe Study Shawl by Veera Valimaki in Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine last weekend. She is amazed at how quickly it is working up – just finished the seventh stripe out of twelve! Of course, the stripes get longer and thicker as the shawl grows, but the combination of garter stitch and short rows is helping it flow a little quicker.
There was also a small bit of sweater surgery this morning as Lauren discovered a few nights ago there was a purl bump where there shouldn’t have been a purl bump in her Soay by Gudrun Johnston. If it had been on the back of the cardigan, she would have left it there but seeing it was on the left front it would have annoyed her too much.
Dropping down almost 50 rows, she fixed the stitch and picked up the rows using a crochet hook, recreating those stitches again. A simple fix and she is back on track.

It helps knowing that these problems are fixable – whether it’s a dropped stitch or the wrong stitch, it’s all about learning how to fix these problems. The Cascade 220 Superwash Sport is fabulous to work with!

Just in time for our Short Row Knit A Long – my Spectra is finished!!

This was such a joy to knit, the little colourful wedges of Noro Silk Garden Sock surrounded by the ultra soft Cascade Eco Alpaca….divine!

I used half of the skein of Silk Garden Sock and just shy of two skeins of Eco Alpaca, this means I have enough Noro to cast on a second one. Now to decide on which colour Eco Alpaca to use, perhaps the cream?

The temptation of our new Cascade Ultra Pima was too much and after much deliberation on colours I settled on a combination of Armada & Deep Coral and cast on Caramel by Isabell Kraemer last Saturday evening.

I can’t help tinkering with designs and I was worried that the finer stripes in the very contrasting colours would be too much so I am going with 12 row stripes (instead of 6 rows). With shorter sleeves planned I hope that this will be a staple light weight cardi in my wardrobe, light and easy to wear over summer dresses.

Our Cascade Ultra Pima has launched with a flurry of cast ons and we have already sold out of many colours. A new shipment, including some new colours will be on the way next week!

Rounding our my Ultra Pima experience this week I started a small crochet project. A simple stool cover…
