Friday Favourites
Spring must be in the air!

Or at the very least the anticipation of Spring…

We have been super busy here at Tangled Yarns – spring cleaning the shop, re-arranging and getting ready for new stock to arrive.

I have been pouring over shade cards and sample yarns, finalising the first of our Spring / Summer orders. We have some exciting new yarns heading our way…my fingers are itching to start working with them already!

Still on the spring cleaning kick, we tidied things up a little on our website as well. With so many volumes of our Berroco Booklets in stock we decided to categorise them by season and year to hopefully make it easier for you to find what you are looking for.

While I was sorting the booklets my love of so many patterns was reignited!

Add to your pattern library this weekend with our Friday Favourite.

It has been such a popular yarn all winter, and I’m sure the 4ply range will continue during the warmer months with some light weight knits.

Classes

Our Thursday night Learn to Crochet class kicked off last night with a class full to the brim!

tangledYARNS

We have a new series of Learn to Crochet starting this Sunday 7th August and continuing 14th and 21st August from 11am-1pm. We still have a few spaces left in this class; with Spring just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to discover a new skill!

If Sunday is too soon, we do have a series beginning Saturday 10th September (10th, 17th & 24th September) from 1-3pm.

We are already taking bookings for our next Learn to Knit class, beginning Thursday 1st September and continuing on the 8th and 15th from 6-8pm. We also have a class beginning Sunday 4th September and continuing 11th and 18th from 11am-1pm.

Our Technical Support classes with Anita are proving to be very popular in helping out those who are new to pattern reading or getting stuck midway through their project.

We have Technical Support classes running Tuesday afternoons from 12-2pm, Thursday mornings from 10am-12pm and Saturday mornings from 10am-12pm.

All classes are $25.00 per two hour lesson. A full class calendar for August & September can be found here.

essential as we do have several classes that are completely booked out. Please call the store on 07 3666 0276 or email tangled@tangledyarns.com.au if you have any questions or would like to book in!

On the needles at Tangled Yarns

Derrin started these socks last Christmas for her cousin’s birthday which was Tuesday just gone. Nevermind, maybe they’ll be finished in time for Christmas!

The yarn is Tangled Yarns Tight Twist Sock in Jungle and the pattern is Derrins own Learn to Knit Socks Class Project. I love seeing what my hand-dyed yarn goes off to become and I’m sure these socks will be very well loved.

When our first shipment of Cascade Eco Alpaca came in, Anita nabbed a sweater’s worth in caramel and cream to make Daffodil by Orianna Eklund. It has taken a while to get it off the needles…Anita swears it’s because she kept stopping knitting to pat the yarn – but with a trip to Sweden looming, she has finally finished it.

And just to make sure she doesn’t get cold in the northern autumn, she’s already cast on two more sweaters: Rosamund’s Cardigan by Andrea Pomerantz in luscious red Malabrigo Rios, and a Lightweight Pullover by Hannah Fettig in chocolate Malabrigo Sock. With only six weeks to go, her needles are going to be flying!

(Yes, our Malabrigo has sold quickly!! Never fear, we have more on the way….)

Kim is enjoying working on her Baktus Scarf by Strikkelise in Eki Riva Supreme. The super soft alpaca and stripes are simply addictive.

She has also finished her Vintage Missoni Inspired crochet blanket! She used the Chevron Granny Blanket by Michelle Kludas as her inspiration but changed the width of the stripes to reflect the widths that the Missoni Fashion House is so famous for.

Kim loves working withour Brown Sheep Cotton Fleeceso much that she has picked out new colours and has a new blanket ready to start!

And something soft and snugly – the beautiful Storm Cloud Shawlette by Hanna Breetz in some cheery yellow Malabrigo Lace. This gives the illusion of big and bulky but is as light as a feather! The yarn is held double stranded and knit on larger needles for a stunning result.

With Spectra off the needles, Lauren has been working diligently on Miette by Andi Satterlund in the Malabrigo Rios.

As you might remember, there was a bit of swatching going on with this project and in the end Lauren decided to start the project in a slightly tighter gauge in the hope that fabric isn’t too drapey. This does pose a slight problem though as the pattern only comes in three sizes and she would have been doing the largest size if she was getting gauge.

To combat this, Lauren has cast on ten extra stitches in the front part of the cardigan (as her bust is the reason she would be picking the larger size) and also cast on a few extra stitches underneath the arm to give a little bit of extra room around the bosom. The pattern does feature some bust darts which did get moved around after some trial or error. This is the fabulous thing about knitting – if it’s not working, all you need to do is rip it back!

No exciting projects from me this week, with winter coming to an end I have been on a finishing kick and working away on my winter blankets. I hope to have at least one of them finished before the month is out!

I have also been busy working on ordering our new Spring / Summer yarns and dabbling with a little crochet which you will see further on in our newsletter…

Last week, the Cherry Ripe Slice was very well received – we only had two pieces left by the end of Saturday!

Spring is in the air…

All around Australia this week I’ve heard of unusually warmer weather which might mean our lovely winter weather is coming to an end. Our days are getting just that little bit longer with the promise of Spring.

We have a beautiful branch in store which has started to sprout some new growth this week with the slightly warmer days we’ve had.

tangledYARNS

Over the next few weeks we will begin to receive our new spring/summer stock – new brands, new lines, perfect for crafting all year round. As new stock arrives and spring edges closer we will add more to the tree…until it is bursting with new life!

This is such an easy project to add to over time and I think it would look lovely as a feature on a dining table or somewhere that needs a bit of life in your home.

The patterns we’ve used this week are Cherry/Almond Blossoms by naturmama and Crocheted Leaves for the Naked Branch by Tara Murray. We have used one of my favourite warmer weather yarns, our Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece.

Inspiring your passion!
