A neat trick that I have shown several people this week using a Knit Pro cable and the cap ends…. No need for bulky, rigid, heavy and downright annoying stitch holders!

SOAK | |
New stock of SOAK has arrived just in time to freshen up your winter woollies.
Soak is a pure, gentle and deliciously scented way to wash the delicate items you care about most. This rinse-free formulation is perfect for washing your laciest lingerie, your softest sweaters, hand-made quilts and even baby clothes. Soak is designed with fabric-friendly ingredients that revitalise fibres so they look great and last longer. Use Soak on lingerie, swimwear, knits, quilts, workout wear, dance wear and all the stuff you love most! A while ago there was a great little discussion on our facebook page about SOAK fragrances. Aquae is a “purely elemental” scent that’s like a breath of fresh sea air. Citrus has the delicious smell of “fresh-squeezed clean”. Flora is a lovely spring fragrance that will make you “stop and smell the fibers” Sola Evening Garden, fragrance designed by Amy Butler. |

Kim jumped on our Eki Riva delivery this week and has cast on a classy Eki Riva Supreme ecru and navy striped version of Baktus by Strikkelise. I am struggling to not join her with a charcoal and navy version…. She is also whipping up a tiny little newborn hat for a family friend that is due shortly. The pattern is Perfect fit baby hat by Hedi Mikitish and Kim is using some squishy Malabrigo Worsted. Anita finished her Godric’s Hollow Hat by Rebecca Beam and has been enjoying the warmth and softness of the Berroco Ultra Alpaca (#6299) all week. She is yet to get to the movies but is all hatted out in anticipation!
With only one and a half sleeves I’m sure Anita will have it finished in no time! Lauren was happy to have finished her stunning Spectra by Stephen West last weekend. She didn’t quite use all of the Noro Silk Garden Sock but had used up all of the main colour. The finished Spectra in all her glory….simply amazing!
Derrin has been busy this week working on Leaflet by Cecily Glowick MacDonald in our Malabrigo Rios (lettuce). The pattern calls for a gauge of 15sts per 10cm using an Aran weight yarn. Rios is worsted weight, so a little finer and is working up at a tension of 17sts per 10cm so Derrin has had to go up a pattern size to achieve a proper fit. The waist shaping is done so she is on the home stretch!
The yarns are Jo Sharp Alpaca Silk Georgette (pearl) and Noro Silk Garden Sock (#302). After 10 solid days working on Hooray by Veera Valimaki I cast off on Tuesday night. A quick bath in SOAK and a gentle block brought the cables to life! The Malabrigo Rios was a delight to work with and is wearing well. (Hooray has been keeping me warm all week)
I have moved the buttons closer together and have six instead of the four the pattern calls for. To help stabilise such a wide button band I have sewn an invisible row of tiny shank style buttons on the inside and just pop them through the ribbing for extra support. this has eliminated any button gaping.
The short rows and watching the Noro colours appear is just addictive…. I also felt the need for a little break from knitting and couldn’t resist the stunning colours in our new delivery of Noro. One ball and a couple of hours later I have a splash of colour to brighten up my winter wardrobe.

Classes | |
The response to the additional classes that we released last week has been fantastic. It is great that we have been able to offer extra classes for our supper eager students. We often receive requests for specific technique based classes – cables, lace, short rows, knitting in the round, magic loop to name a few. To make learning these new techniques fun we have combined our standard class format with our Knit – A – Long format. The result is three new project based Technique Classes! Permission to teach classes using these patterns has been given to Tangled Yarns by each Designer. All patterns must be individually purchased and downloaded prior to attending the classes.Short Rows Short rows are an invaluable skill, they can be used for sock toes or turning heels, adding bust shaping to garments or for well fitting sleeves. Spectra by Stephen West Spectra is a simple lightweight scarf featuring two fingering weight yarns. Short row shaping creates a dramatically curved edge that coils and playfully drapes. Basic intarsia technique entwines two strands of yarn, creating seamless wedges that resemble a rainbow or colour wheel. You won’t want to stop knitting as the colours unfold!Suggested Yarns Noro Silk Garden Sock (Contrast Colour) Plus Biggan Design 4ply Merino (Main Colour) or Ultra Alpaca Fine (Main Colour) Short Rows Spectra Classes:Tuesday 9th August & 16th August 10am – 12 noon or Saturday 13th August & 20th August10am – 12 noon
Magic Loop Magic loop is a handy technique that will enable you to knit almost any diameter circular project. If you feel like knitting with double point needles is too much like knitting with a porcupine this is a solution for you! Some Cloudy Day Leg Warmers by Tiny Owl Knits These adorable leg warmers are the ideal transitional project, perfect for popping inside your winter boots, staying snuggly and warm at home or under your spring skirt when it isn’t quiet warm enough. The lace is a simple seven row repeat with just enough detail to keep you interested. Suggested Yarns or Jo Sharp Alpaca Silk Georgette Magic Loop Leg Warmer Classes: or Saturday 27th August & 3rd September
Circular Knitting Circular knitting or ‘knitting in the round’ eliminated the need for pesky seams and reduces the finishing required. If you tend to knit your garment pieces and then avoid the seaming and finishing you are bound to love circular knitting! Rainbow Dress or Rainbow Dress (Big Sister Version) by Georgie Hallam
or Circular Knitting Rainbow Dress Classes: or Saturday 10th September & 17th September All of these classes are a series of two lessons run over two consecutive weeks and are aimed at the Advanced Beginner – prior knowledge on how to comfortably knit, purl, cast on, cast off, increase and decrease is required. Bookings are essential for all of our classes as we keep our classes numbers small. You can phone the store on 07 3666 0276 or email tangled@tangledyarns.com.au to enquire about or book into any of our classes. A full class calendar can be down loaded as a PDF from our classes page or via this direct link.
