Friday Favourites
Over the past few days there has been a lovely cold snap here in Brisbane! Extra layers of knitwear are being added to wardrobes everywhere – I think it has been the same situation across much of Australia!

This week I finally settled on a pattern and cast on my Miss J’s school cardi. I am knitting Mini Manu by Kate Davies in Raspberry Biggan Design DK Merino.

I am using a heavier weight yarn (the pattern calls for a sports weight) so there was much swatching and calculating before I could cast on. Best I get the needles clicking and finish it quickly!!

Our Biggan Design DK Merino is one of my favourite yarn for my girls as it is machine washable and yet still soft and springy. Plus there is such an amazing range of colours – we love our rainbow wall with the full 64 shades, a colour for everyone.

Brighten up your winter weekend with some Biggan Design DK Merino while it is our Friday Favourite.

Stitches on needles and yarn on hooks

Bright woollen colours and new pattern books

Tangled Yarns bundles tied up with strings

These are a few of my favourite things!

Friday Favourite Conditions – Applies to in stock items only. No custom orders or lay-by. 10% Off does not apply to kits as they are already reduced. Special prices apply from launch of newsletter until 9am Monday.

A Night with Biggan

What a fabulous evening we had on Wednesday!

Wednesday afternoon was spent transforming the store ready for our fashion evening with Biggan and Henrietta from Biggan Designs.

Bubbly and nibbles were enjoyed by all and it was great to see so many enthusiastic knitters excited about Biggan’s beautiful knitwear designs. I especially loved seeing the flurry of hands knitting away during the evening.

The highlight for many was being able to try on the garments to see how they looked and just how versatile the designs are.

Hopefully everyone left inspired to create something for themselves. We are eager to see some finished projects – please drop back in store or share your projects on our
Ravelry Group or Facebook Page; we look forward to seeing them.

Thank you to Biggan and Henrietta for sharing their collection with us and a big thank you to all who attended.

We would love to hold more of these hands on events – if you have something that you would like to see please let us know and we will see what we can do!
June Knit A Long – Socks!

It looks like we launched our Sock Knit A Long at just the right time with the temperatures dropping and toes numbing!

I love seeing the projects cast on with the encouragement of our KALs, there were several pairs of socks being cast on at our social groups last week.

The first of our Learn to Knit Socks lessons began last Saturday afternoon with all of our eager students returning tomorrow afternoon to work on the second stage of their very first hand knit sock. Our students have three different methods of knitting socks to choose from – Double Point Needles, Magic Loop and Two Circulars.

If you missed out on this round of LTKS we have a second series starting on Thursday evening 16th July

Learn To Knit Socks

During three two hour classes you will learn how to create beautiful socks, ideal for the cool weather we’ve been

having – and they’re a perfect portable knitting project.

Please note that this is an intermediate class – you will need to know how to comfortably knit in the round using

either magic loop, two circulars or double point needles.

Thursday Evening 6pm – 8pm

16th July, 23rd July and 30th July

$25 per lesson, plus supplies

Bookings are essential, please call the store on 3666 0276 or email tangled@tangledyarns.com.au for further

information and to book your place.

Needing some more inspiration?

Here are some patterns ideas that have caught my eye this week…

Dimpled Socks by madelinetosh

Ornamental by Nuoska Designs

Serenity by Nikki Van De Car

Cascade Eco Alpaca
When we launched our new Cascade Eco Alpaca with a bang two Fridays ago we almost completely sold out in first 48 hours!

We have received a second shipment this week and have also added two extra colours to the range.

Eco Alpaca 1518

Eco Alpaca 1529

So many people are smitten with our Eco Alpaca and its luscious silky softness, we have seen some great cast ons already.
Derrin has started a scrummy Honey Cardigan by Veera Valimaki in the Eco Alpaca and it is just so soft!

I’m looking forward to seeing it finished.

Cotton Fleece

We received a small top up of our very popular
Cotton Fleece earlier in the week.
Although it might not be the first choice to spring to mind during winter, it is fabulous for blankets.

So many people (including me) just can’t get enough of our Cotton Fleece.

We can’t seem to keep our shelves topped up and will be placing another order this coming week. As always, if there is a colour or quantity that you don’t see in-store or online please let us know as we are more than happy to order in the stock for you.

We just can’t keep up with demand for our
SOAK products! So many people have come to know and love the simplicity of SOAK’s ‘no rinse’ formula and the wonderful variety of scents.

We have received more bottles week and they started to disappear immediately!

Good care of your knitted garments is essential, just think about the time you have taken to knit every individual stitch.

I will be adding more Blocking Classes to our calendar in the coming weeks. During these classes you learn about SOAK, good wash and care routines for your knitwear and blocking techniques.

The crochet hooks are flying this week with our Learn to Crochet classes enticing many first time crocheters and plenty of seasoned crocheters working away on scarves, shawls, wraps and blankets.

Our go-to brand when we are teaching new students is our Clover Soft Touch Crochet hooks.

The ergonomic handle makes learning to crochet a breeze, and the yarn slips perfectly along the shaft.

Knit Pro

Our great range of
KnitPro needles has been replenished this week.

We set up many new-comers to knitting with a set of needle tips and a cable to start their first project. They are very soon back to buy one of the Interchangeable Needle Sets as they love the high quality of the needles and like the flexibility of the sets.

There is nothing more annoying than going to start a new project and not having the right needles on hand. Our KnitPro Interchangeable Sets contain eight sets of tips from 3.5mm – 8mm and a range of cables, making them a fantastic place to start when you are unsure of what type of projects you are going to knit.

Unfortunately our supplier is out of stock on some sizes at the moment but they will have an order arriving late next week so we will have back-ordered stock soon after that.

On the Needles at Tangled Yarns

Last week I cast on Rose Red by Ysolda Teague in the divine Debbie Bliss Andes…it was so spectacular to knit (both the pattern and the yarn) that I couldn’t put it down and finished it in two nights.

On a finishing roll I also sat down and cast off the 600 odd stitches on my Ruffle Scarf by Jo Sharp (Knit Issue 9). The mixture of the Jo Sharp Alpaca Silk Georgette and Debbie Bliss Angel has created a lightweight yet warm scarf.

With two projects off the needles there was room for one more to be cast on! This time with our new Ella Rae Lace Merino. Ella Rae certainly proved to be popular last week with some colours selling out immediately. We will have another order going in this coming week and will be adding further colours to our collection.

I had two odd skeins that were just screaming to become Daybreak by Stephen West. I am so addicted to the subtle stripes that I think I will just continue knitting until I run out of yarn.

Derrin has been playing with our new Noro Sekku with her Anniversary Surprise blanket motif – doesn’t it look stunning? This is going to make a beautiful wrap.

Some of you might remember Lauren working on the Stockholm Scarf in Biggan Design DK in Raspberry before her honeymoon.

She finished it while she was away and it has been keeping her warm this week!

We enjoy sharing a little of what we are working on here at the shop and would love to see your current work in progress and finished projects! Don’t forget to jump online and join the chatter on either our Ravelry Group or Facebook page.

Social Groups
The shop has been all a flutter the past few weeks.

We have many groups choosing to meet at the store for a little social get together. This is outside of our normal social knitting groups and crafting groups – just groups of friends who come to sit and knit and partake in cake.

We welcome groups and to make sure we have sweet treats on hand we do ask that groups larger than four people place a booking. This ensures that we have enough staff to help with any questions you might have and to make sure we reserve one of our lounge or table areas that we also use for our classes and workshops.

Please call the store on 07 3666 0276 or email tangled@tangledyarns.com.au if you would like to make a group booking.

Made by Megan

For our sweet treats this week we have…

Coconut & Lime Cake

White Chocolate & Raspberry Cake

Best served with one of our fabulous hot coffees and a side of knitting!
