Friday News

Wow! What a busy week! I had intended on popping onto the blog several times to post about the projects that I have managed to finish in the last few weeks but time has gotten away from me daily.

So many exciting things happening in store that I will save the finished project images and details until another day…

Friday Favourites

There has been a real chill in the air here in Brisbane! I love waking up to the crisp air and the light frost on the lawns in the mornings. I can only imagine what people south are feeling! I have started to think about some heavier weight garments – there is certainly time in my early mornings (and at times late evenings) where I wish for something a bit warmer to wear.

Many of you know my love for Cascade Eco! The natural hues and that sheepy smell of the minimally processed yarn. The yardage is fantastic as well – at 250g and 437 metres, it is possible to get a short sleeved cardigan out of less than one skein!

If you haven’t made something from Cascade Eco, I strongly encourage you to give it a try and this weekend is an ideal time to as there is 10% off as our Friday Favourite!

May Knit-A-Long

As I was flicking through previous issues of Interweave Knits a few weeks ago, looking for some inspiration, I was taken by a lovely short sleeved cardigan that would be so suitable this in-between season.

Rosamund’s Cardigan by Andrea Pomerantz (Interweave Knits Fall 2009) features a braided cable down the front of the cardigan with reverse stockinette stitch that highlights the cable beautifully.  And how could I go past something that features two stunning buttons at the collar! The project is knit from the top down, meaning minimal finishing, again another tick from me.

Being a short sleeved cardigan, it is perfect for layering over a long sleeved top during winter or a short sleeved top during autumn or spring.

We are offering kits of two or three skeins of the Cascade Ecological Wool – two skeins is all that is needed for the extra small or small size, and three will be enough for from medium to extra large.

If you are confident in adapting a pattern to suit your gauge, the Cascade 220, Debbie Bliss Luxury Tweed, Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran Tweed or the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran would be lovely lighter weight choices.

To be eligible for entry, you need to have purchased the yarn from Tangled Yarns. You can purchase the magazine from us or from the Interweave Online Store in electronic format.

Our KAL will be running until the 30th of May. We would love to see you at our social KAL knitting sessions instore every Saturday afternoon between 1pm – 3pm!

April Knit-A-Long
The finish line is within sight! Both the Sugar or Sweet and Winter Warmth Knit-a-Long finish up on Sunday 2nd May at midnight! I know a few of you are worried about getting it blocked. As long as the knitting/crocheting side of it is finished and it is pieced together (if applicable), we consider that finished!

Amazingly our wonderful Kim has finished yet another blanket this month! This time a stunning chevron striped blanket for her daughters Birthday.

Please email me a photo of your finished projects by midnight Sunday 2nd May. I will announce the lucky winners in next week’s newsletter.

Ecobaby Giveaway
A few months ago added a new line of Debbie Bliss Yarns to our collection – Eco Baby.

This 5ply/sport weight cotton has been a beautiful weight for our warmer weather, and it has been a very popular choice for childrens projects. It is also interchangeable with Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, which gives a cotton option for the Baby Cashmerino pattern books.

Georgie Hallam of tiKKi has been using some of our Eco Baby with one of her newest designs, Eden’s
Adam
.

I am so impressed with Eco baby and the delightful colour range that I have decided to have a little give away for the month of May.

Purchase any of the wonderful Debbie Bliss Eco Baby colours from Tangled Yarns and email a photo of your completed project to go into the draw for a full bag (10 x 50g balls) of Eco Baby in either a boy, girl or gender neutral colour!!!

Itching to start, but a little stumped on what you could make with this yarn? Here is some knitspiration!

Dipped Infinity Scarf Kits
They have arrived! The gorgeous yarns dyed by Elissa of The Yarn Cafe arrived earlier this week and we have been busy winding it all for the Dipped Infinity Scarf Kits.

The kits included enough yarn in the 8 colours especially dyed for the Dipped Infinity Kits plus the pattern. (We have included a little extra yardage to be on the safe side as these kits are all exclusively hand dyed)

It has been such a busy week that we are still putting the final touches on the kits. If you pop into the store in over the weekend to purchase a kit, please allow until Tuesday for collection. Online orders will obviously be posted out on Tuesday as well.

Due to the exclusivity of the kits, we have we are unable to offer holds or lay-bys.

Biggan Colour WorkShop
We have had an excellent response in regards to the Biggan Colour Workshop!

I know many of you were interested in some of the finer details which I can now reveal.

The workshop will be run over two days – Saturday 15th May from 10am – 2pm and Sunday 16th May from 10am – 1pm.

You will be working on the Beauchamp Cowl by CosmicPluto. I was so taken by the pattern, that I couldn’t help casting on…

(which tends to happen a lot with me!)

The pattern can be worked in either the Biggan Design First Cross Merino DK or the Biggan Design First Cross Merino 4ply.

The cost for the seven hour workshop will be $150, which includes the copy of the pattern. Yarn is to be purchased from Tangled Yarns on the day. (That way you can select as many or as few of the amazing Biggan colours that you desire)

You will also require either a 3mm (fingering weight version) or 4mm (DK weight version) 40cm circular needle.

Jo Sharp New Stock
We have received a top up of Jo Sharp books and yarns this week, focusing on the yarns used in Knit Issue 7 and 8 which are still proving to be very popular!

If you have been taken by the gorgeous colours and patterns that are featured in these two pattern books, now is the time to come in or jump online!

ruby&sage
The April slot of ruby&sage was off to the post office this morning, filled with squishy yarn!

Slots are still available to purchase for the May/June instalment.

Friday Dyeday
All this dabbling with the dyes has me itching to get back into some regular yarn dyeing the ruby & sage yarn and the Dipped Infinity Scarf have really inspired me to get back into the swing of things.

Most Fridays (depending on how busy  my week has been!) there will be a small stocking of hand dyed yarn on our website.

These will be exclusive, one-off dyeing creations, which will mean the exact colours will not be repeated. They will appear online and in store over the weekend.

The selection this week is dyed on one of my favourite yarn bases – a 100% superwash merino 4ply/sock yarn!

This yarn will be making an appearance in the ruby&sage yarn club in June! The tight twist means that it holds up beautifully for pair of socks and is still versatile enough to become a stunning little shawlette.
